We will continue developing our own website. But in the
meantime, as members of our Local surf the web, they
are coming across dozens of web sites that can help
each and every one of us be better Americans and
better union members by getting involved. Here a few
for you to research brought to you by your fellow
members:
http://www.aflcio.org/issues/legislativealert/reportcards_pa.cfm
This site gives members a report card for their representative related to labor issues.
www.diamondcutjeans.com This is another Union Made Apparel Company with a unique gusset. What??? “Gusset Technology”…Yes, a diamond shaped piece of fabric sewn in to the seat or stride of the jean to offer unmatched comfort. By using the gusset, they avoid all four seams coming together in one place, which usually causes discomfort to the jean wearer. Using the highest quality of denim available and the unique gusset pattern, they have reduced the wear and tear that normally causes a traditional jean to be thrown away prematurely. Our President, Don Brown, has a pair and loves the gusset.
http://www.americanrightsatwork.org/ Since 2003, American Rights at Work has informed the American public about the struggle to win workplace democracy for nurses, cooks, computer programmers, retail cashiers, and a variety of workers who we all depend on every day. Our vision is a nation where the freedom of workers to organize unions and bargain collectively with employers is guaranteed and promoted.
laborradio.org - Web Radio: Workers Independent News Service
http://www.howtobuyamerican.com or How to buy American.

www.aflcio.org You're more powerful than you think,
especially when you join together with hundreds of
thousands of others and make your voice heard. The
Working Families e-Activist Network is one way you can
do that. As a network subscriber you receive
occasional action alerts when your voice is needed.
With one click you can send a fax or e-mail to a key
decision maker in Congress, at the White House or an
employer who isn't respecting the rights of workers.
E-Activists have made a difference for workers all
over America and done some amazing things in the fight
for good jobs, overtime pay, health care, Medicare,
fair trade policies and hundreds of fights for
workplace justice
http://www.factcheck.org This web site reviews and
critiques every political ad by all parties.
Sometimes it contains facts discounting those made by
your favorite candidate but is extremely truthful.
Sign up for regular updates of every ad.
www.studentsagainstsweatshops.org This is also a
link at the AFL-CIO unionvoice.org web site for your
college age kids, and you. As those of us who had or
have students in college, buying an excessively high
priced item made under sweatshop conditions, both here
and abroad, is inexcusable. This is a great web site
that works with AFSCME and was mentioned recently in
the Public Employee Magazine (page 22 March/April
2004).
http://www.unionlabel.org not only can you buy American you
can buy union too. One section allows you to search
for the product you want to buy and where.
www.amnestyusa.org/home - Check out the actions that
you can take to protect people who are imprisoned or
being oppressed for looking out for the rights of
others, including those trying to form unions. Here
is what we have done recently: last month, an Amnesty
International delegation in Nigeria met with Amina
Lawal, the Nigerian woman whose death sentence by
stoning was overturned after an intensive campaign by
Amnesty International and others. Thanks to members
like you, the AIUSA Online Action Center generated
more than 1.2 million actions on Amina Lawals behalf.
These actions were in addition to more than 6 million
emails, letters and faxes sent by Amnesty
International members worldwide.
http://www.labourstart.org Where trade unionists start
their day on the net both domestically and
internationally. This web site gives the news each day
of labor actions all over the world. It encourages
union members to read and take action.
